With the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it’s important to find ways to take care of ourselves. It’s been said that it takes 21 days to make something a habit. I have listed a few things that you can add daily to improve your life. The best part is, they are all free. Let’s face it, the economy isn’t in the best shape these days. I’ll take anything that’s free especially if it will improve my life.
Drink Water First Thing In The Morning. Our body is made up of more than half water. It is a necessity to live. Most people don’t drink enough water to begin with especially before bed. Who wants to have to get up to go to the bathroom all night? Not me. Drinking water as soon as you get up will start your day with hydration. Before adding this into my daily routine, I didn’t drink water until lunch every day. I would drink a couple of cups of coffee but that was not hydrating. The easiest way to incorporate this into your routine is to keep a water bottle on your nightstand.
Gratitude. You’re probably hearing this advice all over the place. That’s because it is life changing. It’s a small thing to add to your day that will have a huge impact. Being thankful for people and things in your life will not only remind you of the positives but will allow even better things to evolve in your life. Have you ever heard of manifesting? Manifesting is the idea of attracting the things you want through intention. The important thing about manifesting is, you will have. A difficult time manifesting something if you are not appreciative of what you have. Incorporating a couple thoughts of gratitude, a day can change your life.
Learn Something New. The mind is a powerful thing. There is so much information out there. We have the luxury of googling anything we want, any question we have and anything we are interested in. Learning something new each day will benefit you. The best part is, you can pick something new every day. Maybe one day you want to learn about birds and the next you want to read about the benefits of avocados. Not only will you have new knowledge to share but you can use what you learn to improve your life.
Fresh Air. Have you ever stood outside with sun beaming down and a crisp breeze blowing across your face? Or stood in the grass with bare feet? There are several benefits to these activities. I encourage you to fit a few minutes of fresh air into your daily routine. You could sit on a porch, walk around the block or sit in your yard soaking up the sun. Being in nature grounds you, which can improve your life.
Deep Breathing Before Bed. There are many benefits to deep breathing. Even if you have never meditated before or even tried a breathing exercise, you can add this into your daily routine. It will help relax you before bed, help you get a better night sleep and clear your mind. Have you ever had a night where you can’t shut your mind off? Do you play on your phone or watch tv before you fall asleep? Stimulating your brain with tv or phone will negatively impact you. You can change that by adding a few minutes of breathing before bed. While sitting or lying in bed, close your eyes and slowly take a deep breath in through your nose for a count of 4. Hold it for a count of 4 and then slowly let it out through your nose for a count of 4. If a thought crosses your mind, acknowledge it and then re-focus your mind on your breathing. Repeat the deep breathing a few times until you feel calm.
